long hair

i can't stop fantasizing about having long hair. how lame and vain is that? folks keep telling me it will be two more years 'til i have hair to my shoulders. that just seems cruel. and i am staunchly against havin' a weave put in.

1920s hair

so until then, i decided to peruse the NYPL digital library for some hairspiration.

and if anyone knows of a miracle hair pill, let me know. i'm now taking prenatal vitamins because gals swear by them. i can't tell if it's working or not. i'm also using the secret. we shall see...

Buy a few fun wigs -- that way you can play dress-up occasionally in an immediate-gratification sort of way (and who doesn't like to wear a wig once in awhile, anyway?)

prenatal vitamins work like charms. also massaging your scalp often to stimulate the hair follicles and coconut oil (which you can find in indian shops).

I've heard tales of these pre-natal vitamins for hair growth!!! You'll have to update us on your progress!! I'm intrigued, but I don't have the doll hairs for them!! Instead I've been taking like 3 flaxseed and 5 biotin pills a day ... and if I weren't allergic to fish I'd probably be popping fish oil pills too! This regimen makes me feel like a drug addict/old woman - all in the name of long hairs!!

And whaat is this little 'secret' you speak of there missy??

yesterday morning i had hair to my waist. i told the hairdresser i want my usual half an inch off, but she said it was just too damaged and said if i had all the straw-like bits cut off it would look better and grow better. so i had 4 inches cut off. i had to wipe back tears during and have had it in a bun since yesterday lunch because i don't want to be reminded of it. she said the best thing to do is have a trim every 10 weeks and not colour it or use heat. one of my favourite things in the world is aussie 3 minute miracle conditioner (it's cheap too) which i think is an actual miracle. will be sleeping in it once a week. and buying satin pillowcase to minimise damage. i feel your pain! x

i'm super good about not drying my hair with a blowdryer, i think i gave that up about 5 years ago. but i'm definitely get my hair dyed. i think the vitamins are working. i can't tell if it's the pills or just time.

p.s "the secret" is the new-agey positive visualization book. it sounds like a bunch of hocus pocus, but i find it works remarkably well.

I had a short bob 2 years ago and it felt like forever waiting for it to grow out! Everyone told me about biotin and I think it really does work. I know what you mean about the secret - it sounds very LA but it seems to work!
Happy New Year!

I'm in the same boat as you. I chopped off my hair about three months ago, and I am so sad I did so... While I'm pretty sure it's growing, the difference is so negligible... I just want long hair again! Let me know how the vitamins work.

"I'll never, never look at myself again until my hair grows," she exclaimed passionately.

I just got off 5 inches of my own hair(though it is still longish) and I loved it at first but now of course I want it to grow grow grow.

"Diana says when my hair begins to grow to tie a black velvet ribbon around my head with a bow at one side."

I think hair ornaments look so much better on girls with shorter hair, so I envy you that Miss Ginny:)

My grandmother swears by the satin pillowcase theory...(full head of hair and she's 94) I'm using Nioxin shampoo but I've heard great things about Ovation Cell Therapy shampoo. My hair is thin and the Nioxin and Prenatals help a ton against breakage. The only problem is I can barely keep the pesky pills down.

Prenatal vitamins work for sure. I take them (they're really just regular vitamins with extra folic acid and iron) and they seem to work like a charm. Or maybe my hair just grows fast anyway?

Wow, I never knew about prenatal vitamins... I'm so curious to try them now! Even though I'm also contemplating getting a chop. Hmmm. Perhaps a compromise would be getting bangs? O, I just don't know!

i've also heard if you are a runner..your hair grows faster. im not a runner so i have no proof to this. :) i might try the prenatal vitamins.

I love the hairstyles, I wish I had the coordination to do them! My aunty said cracking eggs work but then again my hair grows as fast as rabbits breed:/

and miss moodboard, that is EXACTLY how i feel. i remember feeling sick to my stomach the first time i saw that scene in A.O.G.G

so vain, so sad.

I'm on the grow out train too! I tried prenatals, but I could never commit and the excess iron was proving less than desirable, digestively speaking. I decided to test out the good old fashioned Mane n' Tail regimen and my hair has been longer and thicker ever since! Plus it's a lot less spendy than other options. Happy growing lady!

Ahh my hair is at that annoying stage between long and bobbed, so frustrating!

Are there any weird side effects to the vitamins! I am tempted to try it. Hope it doesn't give any medicine cabinet snoopers the wrong idea, however!! I've been trying to grown my hair for at least a year and it is sort of medium length, but I want it to look LONG! (upon which I will feel an immediate urge to cut it again, but I'll worry about that later.)

"hi, i'm ginnybranch stelling and i love love." said...

hello miss bee! no weird side effects at all, so far...a little nauseous if i take them on an empty stomach. also, i highly recommend NOT drinking coffee immediately after.

p.s tonight i'm gonna try adding an egg concoction tonight in the shower. along with a brown sugar/ coffee body scrub.

the only way i've gotten my hair to grow fast was to start eating meat again...
which was kind of insane. went from being a vegetarian to a sometimes ominvore and boom! hair couldnt stop growing.

I echo Miss B... buy a fun new wig! I have four... sometimes folks thought it was a little weird at first, but I think lots of people just aren't brave enough to do it. It does get a little attention, because I don't wear them every day (but to parties or a concert, they're a blast!).
Also, as a tip. I was serious about getting my first one. I went to a specialty shop where they are $400 and up, and let me tell you, the $20 ones are a little thinner, but they look SOO much better and actually more real, in my opinion.
I wish the practice was more common place. I mean, girls don't really have red lips one day, pink the next, plum the next, peach the next, but we wear lipstick. It's just another beauty accessory!
I wish I could attach pictures here... since y'all don't know me, I guarantee that you couldn't pick out what was my real hair if I posted 5 pics, one in each of my wigs, and one with my natural hair.

oh dear! just don't give up hope. it will happen, eventually. I thought growing out my grays would never end, but after just a year they were grown out in full and now it has been two years and my hair is the longest it has been since I was 15. I do love long hair, I had forgotten the fun you can have with it.
P.S. will you check out my new post and tell me if you recognize the guy in the background of the pic of emily!? i think he is someone who went to scad and dated ginny moore- but not positive, only you would know! xo

Ginny I really feel for you! I spent so long yesterday looking at pictures from when my hair was down to my waist and feel the exact same way!
You'll get there- two years till shoulders is totally not true, by the way. Think about how often you have to shave your legs- hair grows so fast!
I've done the prenatal vitamins, they really do work and you can almost tell right away. Also, brushing your hair for a few minutes before you sleep to stimulate the blood flow. Who knows if any of it works but just wanted to pass that a long from one short-used-to-be-long haired gal to the next.

How utterly beautiful! That first image you posted is just the kind of inspiration I've been looking for!

I cut my hair frmo being mid-back to my chin in June or July of 2008. I haven't cut it since then (other than trims)and it's only about three or four inches past my shoulder now! and my hair grows fast! My goal is to have hair at least to my waist, but it's sure taking it's own sweet time. When I was in High school I lopped it off to my ears and it took a good three years to grown it to my mid back. I may just start the pre-natals! Good Luck!

I was attacked by a hair dresser with the most ridiculous 'trendy' hair cut 2 years ago and had to wait for my hair to entirely grow out (I'm talking a shaved triangle on the back of my head. All the hair on my head is only 2 years old!) It has finally got to my shoulders and I am so happy.
I completely feel your pain, but I promise you your shorter hair is not as bad as you think. I keep looking back at photos of last year and wish I'd appreciated my shorter hair a bit more while I had it.
Look at some 20s finger wave styles instead which you won't be able to do when you're hair is long. Someone added a link to a tutorial in the comments of my most recent post.

Mane and Tail shampoo. It's for horses and can be sort of hard to find, but it has silicone in it to help weight hair down and I swear it will grow it out fast. Also anything for nail growth (vitamin wise) will help your hair grow. My hair grows fast, but my sister recovered from a bad haircut with Mane and Tail. Plus you will have super shiny hair.

i've wanted to try mane and tail, but i dye my hair... won't it make my color fade faster?

I love long hair myself, although I've been experimenting a little with shorter hair. I've heard that buffing your fingernails for a few minutes every morning can really help your hair to grow--and it gets thicker and helps to get rid of gray hairs. It works because everything in the body is connected, and stimulating one part of your body (e.i. your fingernails) can help another part (e.i. your hair). Hope it helps!

you'll know it's working when you have to start shaving your legs/underarms sooner than usual!!! ;)
