what's in a name...

 grand rose

recently, i have hopped back on the make-up wagon. i love a good healthy amount of rouge and a bright lip, at the very least. i feel healthier and more kempt with a little color on my face. that being said, i have also recently depleted my supply of benefit benetint. since there is no sephora anywhere to be seen in these here parts of brooklyn, i decided to concoct my own at home.

fragrant rose

so simple and so easy. all you need is a bottle of glycerin, natural red food coloring, rose water(the kind with a spray nozzle-trust me), an eyedropper, and a tiny bottle. depending on the size of your vessel, the recipe can be altered. i find the ratio to be as such, based on an inkwell sized bottle.

* 3/4 rose water
* 2 drops vegetable glycerin
* 1-3 drops of red food coloring. i personally like 2 drops, which gives me a really healthy, rosy cheek.

rose tint

gently shake the bottle to mix the ingredients and ta da! your very own lip/cheek stain! i've also found smoothing a dab of vitamin e oil over the lips and cheeks, followed with a generous spritz of the rosewater revives my oh so tired, oh so neglected winter skin.

what's in a name

and, what's especially nice about making this at home, other than being ridiculously easy, it that this is so much cheaper than its lovely, fancy pants version bought at a store. because really, what's in a name?

how clever! i'd never imagine to make my own, but it sounds like such a lovely recipe - i always smooth rosewater over my face when i wake up. it's really refreshing, and it feels like such a romantic (and silly) thing to do. isn't the word 'rosewater' just so delicious?

this is great- I've ran out long ago and was thinking of how I wanted to stock back up! Question about the directions-3/4 of what of rosewater? the bottle? an ounce? a gallon? :)

love it. however, rose water makes me break out...it is one of my favorite smells in the world though.

t... good point! i doctored the recipe according to the bottle size, which is tiny. so 3/4 referred to 3/4 of the bottle. is that better? i'm a lousy math teacher.

I love this post so much, thanks for doing it. I use Benetint too but I'm definitely going to try out your version because it is so expensive.

if you go to a whole foods or any natural/ health food store, you should be able to find all the ingredients. so easy peasy!

Such a clever idea! I'll have to go for a darker red, as alas, rose-pink does my complexion no favors.
