my sister gave me this book for christmas last year, and i have been waiting for the right time to share it. allegedly, supposedly, according to some heresay, these illustrations were done by andy warhol before he became a fixture in 1960's new york pop culture. if you have ever lived in new york, i highly recommend seeking this book out. even though it was written decades ago, it still feels shockingly contemporary. filled with all of the arbitrary INs and OUTs that make people feel hip.
hmmm, what will be IN in 2010? hand-written letters and hand-made gifts? shopping your closet? drinking lots of water( to balance out the champagne)? flossing? saying no to snarkiness? self-sufficiency? upcycling? board games? make,do, and mend? gratitude? humility? positive thinking? optimism? dear god, please let optimism be a major IN.
what do you hope to see become a trend in 2010? i'd love to hear your thoughts.
*p.s. this post is so OUT written by an OUT gal living in an IN city.

I sincerely (in an OUT OUT way) hope all black will be back in 2010. Other dark colors are welcome as well. Down with frou-frou!
Okay, some frou-frou is fine :) It always is.

wix: hahahaha!! i was thinking i wanted more frou frou! i am trying to emerge from my sea of black clothing/ homely tomboy fall-backs! i need more floofy dresses in my life!
Just ordered the book from Alibris. Can't wait to get it.
this book sparked a big debate between my friends, we love it! Thankyou Ginny!
Such a wonderful book. I'm think I'll be looking for that next time in a old bookstore.
i have an Amy Vanderbilt cookbook from the 60s illustrated by one Andrew Warhola (actually i have two - i found one on the street!) and the illustrations are in the exactamundo same style.
as an in boy who tries to hard to be in which makes him out but is so sincerely out it makes him in, i live for this
This book looks so funny and charming, but Ginny, what on earth are you talking about?! Girrrrl, the only way you are OUT is if OUT is the new IN.
My fingers are crossed that book clubs will be in for 2010. Doesn't that sound so nice? I guess it's just an excuse to have friends over for gossip and wine, but who knows, some literary discussion might happen too!
ohhhhh yes ma'am, miss JC! i would without a doubt come to a book club at your apartment! fo sho! as long as the book isn't past 12th grade english...
i'm currently re-reading, re-discovering books for readers ages 7-12. i'm such a child. but i can bring the wine ; )
Interesting! I wish it's available in Asia. Good luck with that.
Shall I wish that being a blogger is the new "In" profession? Hope so. =)
HELLO:) I'd imagine this book would state that I'm out, but strangely enough I thinking owning would make me feel "in". I must acquire it! Thankyou for sharing. Happy New Year:D
Lovely, lovely, lovely!!! Good luck cutting out the snark this year, it is sooo hard to subdue sometimes, isn't it?
PS. WHY IS SOMETHING SO BORING AND DULL AS FLOSSING SUCH A NECESSITY!??! Sigh. Good resolution. Same here.
