a river runs through it...

a river runs through it

i'll admit this is one of my top 10 favorites. maybe because it was part of the inspiration for my wedding. maybe because every time may rolls into june, i feel like watching this movie. maybe because my dad took me to see this on a school night when i was in the 2nd grade. maybe because the men are so dang handsome and i want to wear everything in the movie.

a river runs through it
maybe it's everything and the farmhouse kitchen sink ;)

a river runs through it
watching the stelling men fish off their dock over the weekend got me thinkin' about this film. i love how alluring fishing can seem every time i watch someone else do it. but baiting my hook makes me a little squeamish.

a river runs through it
oh depression era/flapper style. i am forever hook, line and sinker for you. pun totally intended. and jessie burns is such a cool chick. bright, witty, savvy, and sharp as a whip. i can't wait for my hair to be long enough to finger-wave. it feels like i'm getting closer...

a river runs through it
oh lets get down to the real deal here. can we all collectively swoon for the maclean brothers? hubba hubba.

a river runs through it

a river runs through it
handsome, honorable norman. love letter-writing, jazz-listening, professorial, loyal and kind norman. hopelessly, madly devoted to jessie, norman. he is the kind of boy you want to marry.

a river runs through it
but paul... paul is the kind of boy you want to go to the dance with. charming, devastatingly good-looking, dangerous paul. a drinker, smoker, gambling, fighting, fishing newspaperman. a rebel to the very end. to the very tragic end. i always end up bawling my eyes out in the last 15 minutes. funnily enough i never experienced brad pitt hysteria after this(just leonardo dicaprio(romeo) and jared leto(jordan catalano)).

anywho(all dreamy boys aside), after i watch this movie i always want to fly-fish; play horse shoes; listen to big band music; find a speakeasy; wear voile lawn party dresses; finger-wave my hair; and enter a watermelon seed contest. all things i think i might have to add to my summer to-do list.

no judgement! also, i echo chelsea's sentiment-the short story itself is soooo beautifully written. it is a lovely and quick read!

acually, it's not david boreanez, although i TOTALLY see the resemblance! the actor is craig scheffer!

Jenny, I've never seen this movie either, though I've read the book. I'm going to watch it now for the clothing alone.

I love this movie so much I bought the soundtrack. My favorite scene is when Norman is using the telephone to ask Jesse on a date. His awkwardness is so charming. Thank you for sharing the beautiful photographs!

I'm almost done with finals, and this seems like the best way to reward myself. Adorable!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this film! It's so good. I cry every time at the end. Robert Redford makes an excellent narrator, & everyone in this film is excellent. I could be biased since I'm obsessed with the 1920's, but I kind of resent that Legends of the Fall gets more hype than A River Runs Through It. :/

Hey ginny,
I would look this lady up for a post. I think you would like her. She is an "It girl" from your fave era!

This is one of my favorite films, too - I saw it as a kid and it inspired me to start fly fishing (though now when I watch I pay more attention to the costumes). You mention that baiting the hook makes you squeamish - the beauty of fly fishing is there's no bait! And if you bend down the barbs on the hook it makes releasing fish easy.

never seen this one either. goodness. I even watch about 15 movies a week, you'd think I'd see this. Brad Pitt is probably one of the onlyl actors I actually find attractive. There aren't many at all.
