on the road again...

flower reflection

girls big red truck 2

i keep telling myself this is the summer where i learn how to drive. and i'm terrified. i love being in cars. i love road trips. i love old cars and stretches of fields. and driving through winding roads and hillsides dotted with old barns and cows. i love driving with the windows down blasting doo wop. and hip hop. and honky tonk. but i'm so scared of being behind the wheel. think good thoughts for me, i think this week i may attempt to be 16 again. give me dirt roads and parking lots. and a lot of courage.

You'll do great. Just repeat "pink cadillac" over and over.

I'm exactly the same. I have this conversation with myself every summer but use the excuse that lessons are too expensive.... but the freedom of a car! xx

You still don't drive? Awesome :) Good luck :) Ohhh... you should head over to my blog and see the pictures of the chicken coop... It's not actually on my blog, I did a guest post, but there is a link there :) I agree, you need a pink cadillac :)

oh, this post hits so close to home as I also have the same fear - and I feel like the longer I put it off, the harder it gets - but I still can't commit to learning!!

Good luck!

I'm 24 and I just got my license after years of hemming and hawing about it--2010 is most definitely The Summer of the Open Road. You'll be great!

Well good luck then!!
I absolutely know this fear
and I´m still not a good driver,
but besides that it´s good to have the driving license :)

I think we talked about this once before, but I didn't learn until I was 26, when we were living up in Hanover, NH. Sadly I didn't really learn until spring, so I was trapped at home all through the winter! Ack.

I was scared stiff but a kind and patient friend taught me (I tended to get too defensive and "I WASN'T BRAKING" when Ben tried), I got the license without a problem, and then the car died and I never drove. Oops. 6 months later once we were living in Boston I had to get a car to drive to work and that's when I really got confident; I figure if I can drive in Boston I'm probably ok almost anywhere! Have confidence in yourself and don't forget to check your blind spot! (And learn to parallel park!)

oh boy!
what fun you are gonna have when you learn to drive!!
I really miss it, I do. You will just love it once you get going. Just imagine- you can drive yourself to any junk store, flea-market, or thrift store you want, you can pack up a picnic and drive to your favorite quiet spot to sit and draw and write when you need to get away, and you can drive on down to FL to see me, come Fall! I can see it now...
good luck, be safe, and have fun!!

Good luck, Ginny!! You are my personal heroine for learning how to drive now... I was also too scared to learn when I was 16, and I really don't foresee myself ever trying in New York.

You can do it Ginny! I was in a bad car accident when I was 16(I was in back seat) and from that point on I was terrified of being on the road.

I decided to learn a couple of years later and took a week long driving school program. 3 days into it my teachers says, you are ready! and I cried(haha) but took the test and passed with flying colors.

To this day I still hate being in traffic and I get freaked out if cars are barreling down on me, so I've learned the back roads everywhere. It takes me twice as long, but I feel more in control.

Like Hayliebird said, you'll gain so much more freedom, just concentrate on that while you learn;)
