give me some kind of sign, girl...

today i am grateful for...

southern roadside fruit and veggie stands. and homemade, hand-painted signs. perfectly imperfect, and awfully dear.

georgia peach

'cause i'm a peach. totally gratuitous peach zoom!

and boiled peanuts are too die for! my mouth is watering as we speak (homer simpson style). i haven't been able to find any up north, which is quite a shame. maybe i will have to enlist some gal pals to help me work out the kinks for a good recipe.

mr. firewood

we deliver

i wonder if mr. firewood delivers all the way up to the big apple? i could always call and see...

i am also on a typeface kick. my sister is practically an undercover, secret agent graphic designer and i am wondering if it runs in the family. i do love me a good hand painted sign and lately i find myself practicing my calligraphy, and the art of hand-written type. and falling for any 'ole piece of ephemera with good lettering, flourishes, and ornament. but nothin' holds a torch to southern folksy road stand signs. good lord y'all! it took all of my good reserve not to sneak away with some of the non-nailed down signs; all alone in a pile, with no place to shine...

Gosh, I think I would have maybe given into the temptation and taken a sign. Eek!

My folks do boiled peanuts, with loads of star anise, but I've never had proper Southern ones.

You can get them at the Dumbo flea market! They're a bit expensive for boiled peanuts, but truly delicious.

The Lee Bros. Southern cookbook as a good recipe for boiled peanuts. Don't ask me how i know. It involves a night of debauchery which i'd soon as forget.
